GAABESU
LATEST NEWS
On the evening of 15th August, 2021, GAABESU organized another e-Reunion, the second of this kind in the last one year, to engage with the present and former students of this heritage institution. Due to the auspicious date, the theme for this e-Reunion was also kept as "Independence & Nationalism".
The event was held on Zoom and was also simultaneously telecast live on GAABESU's official YouTube channel, attracting audience from all over the world and spread across several generations.
The evening had its share of fun and frolic, of nostalgia and cross-generation warmth, and of course, some enthralling cultural performances to top it up. The entire event started at 8:00 pm IST and continued for almost two and half hours.
The event started with a brief introduction by the ever present session moderator, Biman Ghosh, who subsequently introduced Anjana Ganguly Roy, the President of GAABESU, who made a welcome speech for the audience. She concluded on a slightly somre note as we remembered with deep sadness, all our departed brothers and sisters in the recent months.
Biman Ghosh then formally started the evening, inviting three of our distinguished alumni, who shared their memories of the eventful day of 15th August, 1947, the day India achieved her independece.
Those who shared their unforgettable memories were:
Arun Deb (1957 - CE)
Arup Bhattacharya (1960 - Met)
Probir Neogi (1962 - CE)
After these nostalgic narrations, Biman Ghosh handed over the reins to Prosenjit Chakraborty, the anchor for the evening's cultural event, who began with an equally nostalgic introduction of our only centenarian alumnus, Mihir Kr. Chatterjee (1945 - CE). A video clip of him sharing some of his experiences during his days at our beloved campus, during the pre-independence times, was played for the audience who found it both informative and incredible.
Over the next couple of hours, Prosenjit Chakraborty invited various alumni, either as speakers or as performers. The performers mesmerized us with their scintillating performances that ranged across recitation, singing and playing certain musical instruments. The speakers engrossed us with a thoughtful reminiscence of their days in campus, as this handpicked list comprised people who graduated in five different decades, from the 1950s, to the 2000s.

He also picked up for special appreciation, the role played by the organizing Committee of this e-Reunion, mentioning with fondness the names of Indranil Sen, who was the main person behind putting this entire event in one place through his organizing, editing and compilation skills; Swapan Saha, who provided the key tech support that made this e-Reunion feasible; and also the support team of Tultul Roy, Shreayan Nandi and Amitabha Das.
This gala event was eventually brought to an end, but not before the National Anthem of India was played and the entire audience stood up to pay their due respect to the anthem and their beloved nation.
Finally, it was time for everyone to bid each other farewell, with the promise of coming together again, very soon.
