LATEST NEWS
Our community of B E College/IIEST Alumni have been doing their part to help fight against this menacing outbreak of Covid-19. In different ways, they have stepped up their support for those who are struggling, to help them cope and recover.
Here are some of those laudable efforts:
Batch of 1981!
In a concerted effort, the graduating students of the Batch of 1981 have activated their batchmates and contributed both in cash and in kind.
They have raised an amount of Rs. 1.04 lacs and donated this to a group that is seldom mentioned, but is suffering more than many others, the Canteen staff at IIEST.
This enterprising batch of former students have not stopped at this. They have also donated 300 PPEs (Personal Protection Equipment) to hospitals and the Doctors’ Forum.
Batch of 1995!
Always a batch of students with initiative, the Batch of 1995 was once again setting trends for other students and batches of students, during this pandemic. Among the range of initiatives they have taken, the notable ones are as follows:
Donated 150 PPEs (Personal Protection Equipment) to the Bangur Hospital.
Responded to the appeal from Institute of Child Health and delivered them 200 PPEs to help them fight for the vulnerable ones.
Responded to an appeal from the NRS Hospital Oncology Department and committed to providing them with 50 masks and gloves, to help reduce the burden on medical staff.
Some of these actions are in process at this point and the Batch of 1995 wishes to keep on with their noble actions. They intend to help the Mess staff at IIEST, as a part of their next step.
Batch of 1998!
The Batch of 1998 could not sit idle and do nothing, either. While keeping in mind the overwhelming need for so many support items, from food and cash, to PPEs and masks, they identified the shortage of Life Saving Equipments, a crucial requirement for treating those infected by Covid-19.
They collaborated with the Sramajibi Hospital, and joined hands with Route55, another familiar initiative by the BEC/IIEST Alumni, that organizes a 10k charity run every year in December. Together, they launched a campaign called ‘ONE MORE VENTILATOR’ with the pledge to raise funds for at least one ventilator, which costs around Rs. 12 lacs.
The Batch of 1998 raised an amount of Rs. 6.0 lacs and handed it over to the Route55 team, who launched a global campaign to add to that corpus.
Route55!
An initiative by students who graduated in the late 90s, Route55 has been a trendsetting entity that organizes a charity run every winter, and donates all its proceeds to the Sramajibi Hospital, a well reputed non-profit hospital that provides medical support to the needy at a minimal cost.
Team R55 picked it up from where the Batch of 1998 had left it, continued the collaboration with Sramajibi Hospital, and launched a global campaign to take the initiative to even further heights. Soon, the corpus of Rs. 6.0 lacs had received a boost of another Rs. 6.0 lacs and they achieved what the Batch of 1998 had set out for; to deliver one ventilator to the Sramajibi Hospital.
Here is a beautiful video that team Route55 have created, for ‘ONE MORE VENTILATOR’ campaign.
A special mention also for alumni from the Batches of 1993 and 1994, who also stepped in to support this initiative of ‘One more Ventilator’. Together, they have achieved a remarkable feat that will definitely save lives for many.
We are grateful to all those who contributed to these noble initiatives, and helped save the society during these troubled times.
Our alumni have made us all proud!
