APPEAL FOR FUND RAISING FOR ELECTRIC BUS FOR IIEST STUDENTS

Greetings from GAABESU to All Alumni.

This is a world-wide fund drive from GAABESU.

You must have seen in our earlier report about our recent meeting with the new Director of IIEST, Shibpur, Prof. VMSR Murthy. GAABESU Office bearers including a few Senior Alumni met him on 29th July 2024.

This meeting was a follow-up one to the GAABESU President’s first meeting with the Director Prof. Murthy on 3rd June 2024, the day he joined the Institute and took over charge as the Director.

The Director has already formed a team of faculty members for developing a Master Plan on an urgent basis for taking up the required infrastructural development in a planned manner. He expressed his desire for support from the Alumni, wherever is possible in carrying out the Institute’s developmental plan.

You may also please note that our very senior alumni, Prof. Sudhangsu Sekhar Chakraborty (from Delhi), initiated an online meeting with the Chairperson of IIEST Board of Governors, Ms. Tejaswini Kumar on 26th July 2024 when some senior Alumni also participated. This meeting was more like an introductory meeting. On 8th of August, a few of our senior Alumni & EC members met members of Student Senate in a meeting to get feedback from them.

We, on behalf of the alumni in general and GAABESU in specific, are trying our best to re-establish our relationship with the Institute’s new administration and also, directly with the students, to understand the expectations of either side.

During our meeting with the Director he expressed two pressing requirements apart from the 'Master Plan' for which, the Institute had already started working. One was an ‘Electric Passenger Bus' for students for local travel. He felt that the students should go out to visit industries/ construction sites of important projects/participate in various activities meant for students [We all are aware that long back, college had its own buses for students & faculty members to visit to any project sites or Technical Organizations for their academic purpose but with time the buses became unserviceable and no replacement was made]. The Director inquired whether such help could come from the Alumni. The other requirement was to have a beautified walkway & sitting place in the campus, where students & residents can sit / move around. We mentioned that some time back, GAABESU initiated a similar project around the Bidisha Lake and a sitting area near the Clock Tower. On his request, we sent all the drawings and cost estimates to the Dean IRA.

As you all know, our strength for any such commitments comes from you, the Alumni of this 150+ years old Institute. For this Institute only, all of us have mostly secured our lives, achieved whatever possible. So, we do hereby request all of you to join us in this endeavour to "Give Back". We are targeting to raise around INR 1.0 Crore within next four months, so that we can announce the outcome in our next Alumni Day scheduled for 29th December 2024.

Requesting all of you to come forward and help us by donating for this cause.
