Appeal For Funds To Upgrade The Institute Gymnasium!

This is an appeal for donation for up-gradation of Gymnasium, as per request of the Dean-Students Welfare, IIEST. Our over-a-century-old heritage Athletic Club Building, home of BEC/BESU’s Gymnasium, has been in poor condition for quite some time (since 1980's) due to the age of the building & it's facilities, as well as for lack of proper maintenance and usage. In the year 2013, GAABESU decided to renovate the Gymnasium as a part of the efforts to give back to the Alma Mater.

Gym renovation Committee initially received funding from three batches namely, 1953 entrants and the classes of 1963 and 1971. Subsequently Classes of 1961, 1962 and 1988 also pitched in. Many local and overseas Alumni also donated generously to raise about Rs.30 lacs., Within a year the Gymnasium has been equipped with both Cardio and Strength Exercise Equipment. Main hall and adjacent Hall complete floor were laid fully with newly purchased proper Sports Rubber Flooring.  Main Hall has been provided with a modern “Sonodyne” Sound System for Music with Amplifier and multiple Speakers properly wired up throughout the Hall.  Adjacent Hall has been provided with a 48” Wall Mounted “Sony” LCD TV and DVD Player. Shoe rack and Water Cooler with Aqua guard has been provided in the Change Room and Fire Extinguishers have been installed in Main and Adjacent Hall.  The entire project cost was Rs. 29.00 lacs. The Gymnasium was inaugurated on 30th August, 2014 for all students with the presence of many the-then IIEST Professors and many distinguished alumni members of GAABESU. Maintenance was supposed to have been carried out by the Institute.

Now, the building is again undergoing renovation and nearing completion. While placing the work order, replacement of ground mat work and equipment dismantling/re-installation & overhauling work was missed. But without these, the work will remain incomplete and the Gym non-usable. In a typical government system, any new approval/tender/order process will take its own time. Under these circumstances, the Institute authorities has requested for help from GAABESU and alumni community to support in funding for a new mat (approx.Rs.4 Lakhs) and re-installation/overhauling of equipment (approx. Rs.2 Lakhs), where the contractor will carry out the job and GAABESU will pay him directly.

We hereby request all alumni, whoever is willing to donate for this cause, may donate to GAABESU as per our standard procedure.  Donation in INR will get the Income Tax Exemption (80G).

9.   Enter the amount to be paid and then proceed.

10. Review the information.
