First GAABESU E-Reunion Leads to a Memorable Evening

Following the footsteps of B.E.College/IIEST Alumni from North America, who organised an e-Reunion in early July, GAABESU had organised their first e-Reunion on the auspicious day of 15th August, 2020 at 8 p.m. IST.

The event was the first of its kind for GAABESU, and it took a lot of effort from many of the members and volunteers, who worked relentlessly behind the scenes despite the physical restrictions that are in place, to make sure the event was well executed.

In the end, the event turned out to be a major success, both in content and in participation, especially given the fact that this was the first such endeavour by GAABESU. A total of 118 members attended this session, conducted over a Zoom call, and while some had to leave early to attend to their other commitments, 99 members stayed back till the very end of the event.

On behalf of the entire team of GAABESU, we thank everyone for their participation, as panelists, performers and as guests, to make this event a memorable one, full of fun, enjoyment and nostalgia.

The Introduction

The Zoom session began fifteen minutes ahead of scheduled time, allowing participants to get familiar with each other, exchange greetings and reignite some nostalgic memories. Our friendly host, Biman Ghosh - 1981 Metallugry, then took over the reigns and guided us through a disciplined and warm session of introduction.

He started by greeting everyone and laying down the agenda for the evening, as well as some ground rules to follow, before inviting Ms. Anjana Ganguly Roy, 1977 E&TC and GAABESU President, to deliver the opening message.
After the short opening message, it was time to introduce the senior most attending alumni from the graduating batches in the 50s, as well as the junior most alumni members from the graduating batches post 2010. It was a wonderful mix of two completely different generations of BEC/IIEST alumni, brought together by their historic alma mater.

Business Meet

The Introduction was followed by a compact and informational Panel Discussion on the very relevant topic of "Enhancing the image of IIEST and what our alumni can do to help".
Biman da introduced the four distinguished panelists for this session which included stalwarts from the industry and the country in general. The list of our eminent alumni who expressed their opinion on this topic is given below.

Mr. Amitabha Ghoshal - 1957 CE
Mr. Sudhanshu Chakraborty - 1957 CE

Mr. Tathagata Roy - 1966 CE
Mr. Jyoti Majumdar - 1972 Met E

Each of the four panelists expressed their own views on how the BEC/IIEST alumni can help enhance the image of their alma mater and their infortative opinions can be viewed below.

Cultural Program

And finally, it was time for some entertainment. This part of the event was hosted by the  Working President of GAABESUPrasenjit Chakraborty, 1987 EE, who showcased an impressive mix of warmth and humour as he individually unveiled the performers for the evening.

From a fairly large number of participants showing their interest and willingness to perform at this event, the organising committee had to shortlist a few, regrettably due to the paucity of time. But the choice was well accepted and each of the final performers did splendidly well, as the audience was enthralled by over half an hour of poetry, music and nostalgic renditions of their long left campus days.

After this short, yet sweet cultural performances, Prasenjit da invited the Secretary of GAABESU, Sitansu Sekhar Ghosh (1980 ME) who delivered a note of thanks to everyone who helped organise and everyone who attended the event.

To mark an appropriate end to this unforgettable event, held on such a historically important day for all of us, the National Anthem of India was played in the end, as each member stood up from their seats, to show respect to their motherland on her 74th Independence Day.

After the National Anthem, the event was brought to its conclusion by the hosts, as attendees bid their goodbyes to each other and promised to regroup soon again.

A glimpse of this entertaining cultural program can be viewed below.

Once again, from the entire GAABESU team, we thank everyone for this unforgettable evening full of fond memories. We promise to organise similar e-reunions in future, and we count on each of you for an even higher participation for the next event.
