Financial report & Return submission

FCRA & Society Registration returns submitted and approved. The Auditor submitted the rectification of last I T Demand. PAN Card name change is postponed now, we have to surrender the PAN Card as the PAN card number is indicated GAABESU as a trust not association.  GAABESU has to apply for a new pan card. But the surrender of the PAN card is a little difficult now, we shall surrender it later.

Update on Scholarship & AFE Award 2022-23

After 2 years of online programme the Scholarship distribution ceremony successfully held in person on 11th March, 2023 at Alumni Seminar Hall, IIEST.  Total awards and amount chart is given below:

It was decided in the EC meeting that the administrative charges for GAABESU  applicable for the new scholarship donation. The donors will be requested to donate the scholarship amount and the administrative charges separately.  

Formation of the Election Commission for the election of EC9 (2023-25)

As per MoA, 3 members will be selected for the upcoming Election commission.  Secretary spoke to Syama P Datta, Aditya Bandyopadhyay and Gautam Bandyopadhyay. They agreed to conduct the election of GAABESU Executive Committee 9. The name of Syama P Datta proposed for Election Commissioner and other 2 names proposed for committee members.  All agreed and the members of the Election Commission were approved. The electronic voting system is ready for the EC9 election. This software conducts the Election electronically. For security purposes, a combination of email ID and phone number have been checked. A unique link will be sent to each member to their mobile no and email ID. Unique links are separated for each member.   

BE College History as told by veterans - A proposed project 

Prof. Amitabha Ghosh proposed to take a new initiative to archive B E College/IIEST history as seen by our alumni living all around the world. GAABESU can compile a book with the contribution of the alumni which will be published and distributed widely. Prosenjit Chakraborty is willing to volunteer for this initiative.

Progress on NIRF ranking support to IIEST/BOG meeting update

After a few meetings with the 25 NIRF committee team members, 3 teams like Research Vertical, Consulting and CSR funding utilization did some work within these parameters. In the meeting with BOG chairman and GAABESU, the chairman requested the alumni community for funding for the University. He advised them to collect the fund from the alumni who are in a good position in the corporate world and can explore CSR funding. GAABESU NIRF committee can play a positive role for CSR funding utilization, A committee will be formed amongst the alumni who have the connections with the corporate world and the name of Sudhansu S Chakraborty was suggested as Chairmen of this committee. Arun Deb will talk with Sudhansu Chakraborty regarding this initiative.

Update on MOA revision and submission

Amendment of MoA was placed in the AGM 2022 for general members’ approval. The MoA approved and the comparison sheet is under processing.  At first, form V will be submitted for Notice of the amendment of the MoA. After permission from the Society registration office, Form IV will be submitted for amendment. The minutes of last AGM was circulated to all members and uploaded on the GAABESU Website.

GAABESU Seminar update

GAABESU has held 3 Sustainability Seminars in collaboration with Mr. Arup Bhattacharyya (ADI Associate), a physical one in January 2020 and 2 virtual ones in January 2021 and 2022. Mr. Bhattacharyya suggested for 2023 seminar organize in collaboration with other institutes.  The seminar will be held after AGM.  Seminar topic is being finalised by the GAABESU Seminar subcommittee. 

Update on Membership drive

Membership committee created a WhatsApp group of new pass out students for various news of the campus and membership drive. They sent emails to all chapter’s representatives to increase membership growth. President requested the committee to take a drive for student membership which was added in the new MoA. GAABESU will implement the student as a member with a nominal fee of Rs.500/-.  After graduation they will become Life Members by virtue of this membership fees. 

Prof. P K Roy Memorial lecture programme

“Prof. P K Roy Memorial lecture” successfully held on 8th February 2023 at 4.30 p.m. at Seminar Hall at the Civil Engineering Department jointly organized by the Civil Engineering Department & GAABESU. The speaker Prof. Sriman Bhattacharya delivered a wonderful lecture in this programme. Prof. Bhattacharya has given his lecture on "Sustainable Development Goals - are we the Civil Engineers Ready?” After completion of his lecture an interesting interaction session was held between the audience and the speaker.

Paramesh Ranjan Dhar Debate competition 2023

Paramesh Ranjan Dhar Debate competition was held successfully on 20th February, 2023. The hall was full with the audience. There were 14 student participants and the quality of discussion was very good.  Judges are Prof. Manas K Sanyal, Prof. Aparna Dey Ghosh and Mr. Siladitya Ganguly (1979 CE). The topic of the debate is “The House believes that War is never justified”. There are 3 prizes, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. These prizes were also distributed in the Scholarship distribution ceremony.
