GAABESU Announces Scholarships and Awards Worth Rs. 20.15 Lacs

GAABESU announced their flagship Scholarships and Awards for 2021-22 on Sunday, 27th March 2022, through a well attended online awards ceremony, using the Zoom platform. 
 

The Scholarships and Awards have been a trendsetting endeavour by GAABESU and has been carried out meticulously for several years, and this year, despite all the external distractions, there was no exception.  

For the year 2021-22, the entire gamuts of awards were broadly split into 7 categories as follows:

1. Research Awards

2. AFE Awards

3. Scholarships for 1st Year

4. Memorial Scholarships

5. Individual Sponsored Scholarships

6. Group Sponsored Scholarships

7. Book Grants
The entire value of the Scholarships and Awards announced was to the tune of Rs. 20,15,500 with a total of 127 recipients benefitting from this initiative. Below is a summary of the entire range of Scholarships and Awards. 

The event began with the host for the evening, Mr. Prosenjit Chakraborty (1987 EE) welcoming the audience and inviting the key speakers one by one for their brief speeches. First in line was Mrs. Anjana Ganguly Roy (1977 ETC), the President of GAABESU, followed by Prof. Debasish Dutta, the Dean of Alumni Affairs of IIEST Shibpur.  Then the Chairman of the Scholarship Sub Committee of GAABESU Lt. Col. Anjan Ghosh (1976 ETC) submitted annual report on activities of Scholarship Sub Committee for the year 2021-22.

The other eminent speakers who graced this occasion were Dr. Prabir Neogi (1962 CE), Prof. Amitabha Ghosh (1962 ME).

Thereafter, the dais was handed over to Mr. Rajdeep Dutta (1988 EE), the Global Coordinator and the flag bearer of this impressive endeavour by the Scholarship Sub-Committee of GAABESU. Mr. Dutta undertook the tedious effort of calling out each award individually, along with the respective donors and the respective recipients for each of them. 

The first category of Awards was the GAABESU Research Awards, which were awarded to 8 recipients and accounted to a total value of Rs. 1,44,000.

The next category was the GAABESU "Alumni Fellowship for Excellence", awarded to 23 deserving students and the total amount was to the tune of Rs. 4,27,500.

This was followed by the remaining categories of awards, including Scholarships for 1st Year, Memorial Scholarships, Individual Sponsored Scholarships, Group Sponsored Scholarships, and Book Grants. The total number of recipients for these multi-faceted awards was 90, and the total value leading up to Rs. 14 lacs and 4 thousand.

The evening saw an engrossing mix of attendees that included eminent alumni from several batches and generations, many of them generous donors for this immensely popular effort by GAABESU, as well as several present students of IIEST Shibpur, across batches and departments, many of whom were the deserving recipients for their performance and excellence in various fields.
