GAABESU activities during the period September- October 2022

Financial report & Return submission

Income Tax return for the F.Y. 2021-22 has been submitted. 80G return and other returns were also submitted in due course. GAABESU received two demands Notice from I T department.    The appeal submitted against the 1st demand Notice in the F.Y. 2019-20.   GAABESU will submit the appeal against the second demand in November, 22.  The Auditor and the income tax lawyer are working on it. 

Update on Membership drive

The GAABESU membership sub-committee had a meeting recently and decided to start a membership drive.  Committee members will contact last 5 years batch coordinators and will open a WhatsApp group with the coordinators to encourage their batchmates for GAABESU Membership.  To obtain an easy online payment gateway, it was decided that google pay is the easiest payment gateway and GAABESU will open google pay with a phone number shortly. To enhance the membership and fraternity an email sent to all local chapters’ champions to organize a quarterly meeting. GAABESU welcomes all alumni chapters to connect with GAABESU to reach out to more and more alumni and bring them under one umbrella for the benefit of our alma mater. Update on Alumni Day 2022

The Alumni Day will be held on 25th December 2022 (Sunday) at IIEST Campus. The announcement of Alumni Day was circulated on 8th September, 2022. The brochure is also going to be completed shortly. Like last 2 years there will be a panel discussion on 24th December at 7 pm on the digital platform. The topic is "Engineering and Engineering Education in the 21st Century - Repositioning IIEST".  A meeting was held among the cultural committee members recently and the programme and performers are finalized. The entire programme will be for 1 hr. 30 minutes.

Progress on NIRF Ranking support to IIEST

A survey was conducted to request our alumni to respond to wherever they are able to help. Primarily there are four verticals; Student, Department, Faculty and Institute and each vertical has some sub areas and we collected the survey feedback based on those areas. GAABESU Survey data was analyzed and 25 teams were formed.  A series of kickoff meetings held in mid-August 2022 and a review during mid-September 2022. Response received from very few out of 25 teams. 

Parallelly, A meeting was scheduled with the BOG Chairman and few senior alumni along with GAABESU representatives in mid-October 2022 which is now rescheduled in November 2022. Amongst other matters, slide in NIRF ranking is also to be discussed.

MOA revision and submission

MoA review committee prepared a MoA revision and submitted in an EC meeting. The EC approved the revised document and it was placed in the AGM 2022 for general member’s approval. Few questions were raised on some Clauses and the same were promptly responded after AGM. The main queries raised were for fair & electronic Election procedure. It was clarified that the Election procedure document, which was approved in the AGM 2017 and re-confirmed in the AGM 2018, already includes the provisions. On behalf of GAABESU President & Secretary clarified all questions raised by the members.  We are going ahead with preparation of Comparative sheets and subsequent submission to the “Registrar of Societies, Govt. of West Bengal” for formal endorsement.  

Updation of Membership Database

GAABESU, have one google group email IDs for members and 3 google groups email ids for non-members. GAABESU office is in the process of adding the email IDs of non-members on the website database.

Website Changes

Currently GAABESU USA foundation is unable to transfer money due to some prohibition in USA Foundation bylaws. The PayPal account is connected with USA foundation account. It is a request to alumni who donate in foreign currency, to send it directly to FCRA account in SBI, New Delhi main branch so that money reaches India directly.  

Prof. P K Roy Memorial lecture & Paramesh Ranjan Dhar Debate competition

“Prof. P K Roy Memorial lecture “& “Paramesh Ranjan Dhar Debate competition” will be held in this year. Due to pandemic situation the Lecture programme & Debate competition were postponed for 2 years. The speaker Prof. Sriman Bhattacharya was selected in 2020, who agreed to give the lecture on “Prof. P K Roy Memorial lecture” programme.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF GAABESU RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR 2022-23

GAABESU is announcing “GAABESU Research Excellence Award” this academic year 2022-23 under its Scholarship Programme to promote research among UG & PG students of IIEST. 8 awards will be given to the research work which can be presented / published to the national and international professional events and/or publications.

The selection of the research work for nomination to the awards will be done by a committee specially constituted for this purpose, by GAABESU representing active alumni engaged in teaching and research.
