GAABESU Organises Webinar, Sharing Alumni's Experience at Top Global Universities

On Saturday, the 19th of September 2020, at 8 pm IST, GAABESU organised a webinar for its alumni and the current student community in particular, with the intention of 'Sharing the journey and experience at the top universities in the world'
The event attracted a sizeable audience, many of them recent alumni and present students at IIEST, who are expected to benefit from these experiences, in carving out their own way to top notch global universities.

The event started just before the scheduled 8 pm slot, with some informal chit chat and greetings from our alumni to the familiar faces they were able to connect with, before our e-host for the evening, Parbati Bose - 1997 CST took over and requested a minute's silence, to show respect to the recently departed souls from our extensive alumni community.

Parbati also took the audience through the planned agenda for the evening along with the time slots for each, meticulously documented by Swapan Saha - 1988 EE, and laid down the ground rules to follow during the event. She also invited the GAABESU President, Anjana Ganguly Roy - 1977 E&TC, to deliver the opening address.
Thereafter, she handed over the reigns to Prof. Nihar Biswas - 1970 CE (Windsor) who took charge as the moderator for the rest of the evening.

Nihar da, in his trademark composed and dignified style, took the audience through an engaging, inspiring and often very light hearted evening, as he called upon some eminent panelists to share their journeys and experiences.
The four panelists handpicked for this special evening are nothing short of celebrities in their own rights, and their names are as follows:

Goutam Chattopadhyay - 1987 E&TC - PhD (Caltech)

Subhamoy Bhattacharya - 1988 CE - PhD (Cambridge)

Arijit Banerjee - 2005 EE (MIT)

Debojyoti Panda - 2014 CE PhD Candidate (Harvard)

There was also an eminent guest speaker, Prof. Gautam Dasgupta - 1967 CE (Columbia) who shared his valuable experience with aspiring students and recent graduates.

The address by the panelists and the guest speaker was followed by a brief Q&A session, that allowed present members of the IIEST student community to ask certain questions and seek advice from these illustrious alumni members, who gladly obliged with personalised tips and tricks.

Finally it was the turn for the Secretary of GAABESUSitansu Sekhar Ghosh - 1980 ME, to deliver a vote of thanks to all the panelists, guest speaker, organisers and to all the attendees for this session. That concluded an engrossing and informative evening, which continued for almost twenty minutes beyond the scheduled timelines, but to each and everyone participating, every single minute was well worth it.
