We all love our alma mater and the best way to keep in touch with our alma mater for life is thru a membership of GAABESU - Global Alumni Association of IIEST Shibpur. GAABESU is an organization that bridges us with our alma mater. Joining GAABESU is a very big decision that will affect someone for the rest of their lives. Becoming a part of GAABESU automatically gives you the distinction of being different and gives you the chance to take advantage of the many benefits that GAABESU offers.
GAABESU has completed many projects over the years and have many projects in the pipeline to help students, faculty, and adminstration at IIEST or alumni around the globe.
GAABESU Major Projects/Initiatives:
Alumni/GAABESU Scholarship Programme:
Alumni sponsored yearly scholarship program to help needy cum meritorious students at IIEST. More than INR 1.5 crores have been donated to 1400 students since 1998.
Alumni LAN Project:
Campus-wide computer networking project made possible thru alumni contribution of USD 38K.
VLSI Lab Project:
Very Large-scale integration of R&D laboratory through alumni contribution worth USD 460K.
State-of-the-art Seminar Room Project:
State-of-the-art seminar room with advanced audio-visual presentation capabilities thru alumni contribution of USD 30K.
PDSIT Project:
Establishment of new interdisciplinary Information Technology department at IIEST with alumni donation of INR 1 Crore.
Promoda Lodh Research Laboratory:
Establishment of a Research and Development center for mobile information and communication technologies through alumni contribution of USD 35K.
Young Faculty Research Award:
Annual research awards for young BESUS faculty from alumni contribution of INR 100K per year.
Alumni/GAABESU Seminar Project:
Seminar series with alumni as well as other distinguished speakers thru alumni contribution of USD 4K.
Construction Grant:
Contribution to complete a floor of the Science Building thru alumni contribution of USD 71K.
Gymnasium Renovation:
Class of '61, 62, 71, and other alumni members donated INR 29 lakhs to renovate gymnasium.
2nd Gate Renovation Project:
Class of '83 donated INR 15 lakhs to renovate 2nd Gate entrance to the institute.
GAABESU Mentorship Programme:
To assist students in making the right career and academic choices and to develop a strong, global network.
GAABESU Emergency Medical Fund Project:
GAABESU provides financial support to students, alumni, faculty, staff and/or their families for certain medical emergencies. More than INR 60 lakhs have been donated to help out ill people over the years.
BESU Documentary Film Project:
GAABESU made a documentary film on the history of 150 years of IIEST (BESU) directed by great filmmaker Sri Buddhadeb Dasgpta in the year 2009-10. This was made possible through alumni contribution of INR 11.5 Lakh.
Slater Hall Renovation Project Class of 1979 (Oonoashi):
Renovated one of the historic buildings, Slater Hall, in our campus that would house ‘Students' Centre for Creative Excellence’. Total alumni contribution was INR 12 Lakh.
Swimming Pool Renovation Project:
GAABESU collaborated with BESU to renovate the swimming pool. The estimated cost was INR 1 Crore 45 lakhs of which GAABESU contributed INR 90 lakhs.
1981 Batch Guest Chair Project Initiative:
A Guest Chair professor has been created at IIEST with the fund donated by 1981 batch.
GAABESU Reward Programme:
Alumni reward program for students to appreaciate their soft-skills. This programme is initiated by GAABESU member Mr. Asim Deb and so far INR 18 Lakh is raised.
Student's Innovetion centre:
Arun Kanti Banerjee ( 1962 Mech) donated in 2016 , Rs One crore for development of the building and facilities for Student's innovetion centre .( Building is constructed ahead of Lords field).
Donation for various Excellence Award:
Prabir Kumar Neogi ( 1962 Civil) donated in 2017 , Rs 50/- lakhs ( Rs Fifty lakhs) for various Excellence Awards in memory of his parents.
1982 Batch iniciative:
1982 batch renovated the two galleries on either side of the Concrete Pavilion of the Oval ground. A marble piece fixed with "BIRASHI' written on it in Bengali.
