Progress Update on Three Infrastructure Projects at IIEST Shibpur

GAABESU is pleased to share the latest progress on the three infrastructure initiatives being undertaken at IIEST Shibpur with the support of alumni and well-wishers.

• 1. Audio System – Civil Engineering Seminar Hall

The installation of the new SONODYNE Audio System in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Civil Engineering has been successfully completed.

The system includes high-power speakers as well as two vertical speakers positioned on either side of the display panel, ensuring better and more uniform distribution of sound throughout the hall.

The upgraded system will significantly enhance the audio experience during lectures, seminars, conferences and other academic programmes.

Status: COMPLETED 

• 2. Rehabilitation of the Heritage Clock Tower Wooden Roof

The rehabilitation of the historic wooden roof of the Heritage Clock Tower has progressed very well and is now in its final stage.

The damaged timber members have been replaced with new seasoned timber. The joints between the wooden planks have been properly executed using suitable joining adhesive, while suspected fine gaps have been sealed with silicone.

As part of the preservation process, all new timber members were first treated with Creosote Oil for protection against future termite attack. They were subsequently coated with Asian Paints WoodTech Epoxy Insulator.

Following completion of these treatments, primer painting commenced on 2 October 2026.

Simultaneously, repair and rehabilitation work inside the Clock Tower is progressing. This includes the machinery-supporting platform and the steel cat ladders, which are being repaired and replaced wherever necessary.

We are hopeful of completing the entire roof rehabilitation and associated works by 16 October 2026.

Status: IN FINAL STAGE 

• 3. Beautification of the Clock Tower Surroundings

The plan for the beautification and improvement of the area surrounding the Heritage Clock Tower has already been prepared.

The work will commence after completion of the roof rehabilitation and removal of the steel tube scaffolding by CPWD.

Subject to the timely removal of the scaffolding, GAABESU hopes to commence this work in the beginning of November 2026.

Status: READY TO COMMENCE

These three initiatives reflect GAABESU's continuing commitment towards preserving the heritage of IIEST Shibpur, improving its academic infrastructure and enhancing the campus environment.

We sincerely thank the Institute authorities, CPWD, consultants, contractors, alumni and all donors and well-wishers whose support has made these projects possible.
